Rafael Moreno-Mata, a visual artist born in Vélez-Málaga in 1972, starts circumstantially in painting at the beginning of the 21st century with Antonio García and together they receive classes from Hijano Conde. Later he is very influenced by the work of Francisco Hernández with whom he will maintain friendship until the death of the Master. After winning some prizes like an Honorable Mention at the XIII Benamocarra International Painting Prize, the first painting prize “Villa de Torrox 2011” or the first prize for outdoor painting “Juan Jurado Lorca 2011” from Vélez-Málaga he had his first solo exhibition at the City Council of Vélez-Málaga in August 2012 with the title “UNEXPECTED ART” with great success of critics and audiences. It is then when he decides to start his career as a painter in a more professional way and performs 18 more exhibitions in the following two years, some of them together with the photographer and artist Alejandro Martín Parra as the one titled “ElReflejoUrbano” in the tourist office of Torre del Mar in 2013. That same year, together with other collaborators, he founded the cultural association ElArteInesperado of which he is President. The production of that period includes urban landscapes, portraits and some abstract oil paintings wrapped in a unique and characteristic atmosphere of the author. From 2014 onwards his works and exhibitions are mostly focused on Urban Art and the creation of stencils in which he captures his passion for cinema, comics and old vehicles.
